Both home educated throughout their secondary education (by me and the support of the awesome team of examiners at Mark My Papers).
Ossie (eldest) from Year 7 and Ernie, actually from Year 5 (after failing the 11 plus).
A teaching method that relied on copious amounts of reading, due to living in rural France without much access to the internet, yielded fabulous results and an indefatigable love of learning.
No hardships to survive without an iPad, phone or laptop!
Ossie has just completed his MPhil on a scholarship after a double first in History at Christ’s College, Cambridge and he will now join magic circle law firm, Slaughter & May on a training contract. A huge achievement. Anyone who has taken part in the Christ’s webinars for home educated students will probably know Ossie, who has worked very hard to improve access for high achieving home educated students – with great success leading to several offers.
Ernie (photographed with me) is now entering his fourth year at Pembroke College, Cambridge reading Chemistry before setting his sights on Graduate Medicine. He will spend his summer volunteering at Addenbrookes Hospital and working for various summer schools. Ernie is also planning to organise some science focussed webinars (through his college) for home educated students, aiming for a Natural Sciences degree in the next academic year.
